Who Are We?

Students, writers, drama fanatics

Pine is an imprint of Hwalgi, a nonprofit whose primary aim is publishing student voices.

The problem with Hwalgi is... that it doesn't generate any income. That means it's operating without any cash on hand, meaning it's virtually impossible to expand the platform or commit to any initiatives.

So we started Pine: an imprint that will, we hope, generate ad revenue that will be used to fund Hwalgi initiatives.

When starting Pine, our first question was... what should Pine be? All we knew was we wanted something that could generate money. We're writers - so we wanted to write. But it's hard to get people to read student essays (re: why we started Hwalgi). What people do read is... entertainment media. Writing about their favorite TV shows, their favorite books and comics.

So that's what Pine is: our entertainment media imprint. We started with what we knew: the things we like to watch and read; as of now, that's K-dramas and Webtoons.

Ads?

Yes, ads. We don't want to put ads on Hwalgi, so instead we'll be serving ads on Pine. There's no ads yet - we can't exactly make money off of... nothing, so we're focusing on building a small library of content first. But eventually, there will be ads on Pine.

Pine?

Pine, as in opine, but also as in pining. It's silly, but so is Pine.
